Protein Skimmers
Protein skimmers are a vital piece of Saltwater filtration. Skimmers operate on the simple principle that protein clings to the surface tension of bubbles, and use this to export this protein into an external collection cup where the bubbles are collected.
Despite the fact that the principle is basic, designs for skimmers can vary from reasonable simple, to complicated multi pump models. Choose a skimmer that is right for your application; large volume or higher bio load systems will have a greater demand for high end skimming, whereas smaller or lightly stocked systems may be able to get away with a more simple model.
